About the title
God heals in some crazy creative ways. Turns out Ambien, the sleeping drug, can sometimes have the opposite effect on people with brain injuries. When the staff at Touro told my mom Peyton was talking to her at night we didn’t believe it. Turns out shortly after giving her a dose of Ambien, Peyton was mouthing words. In the beginning we’d huddle around after the medication was given and wait for it to sink in. Sure enough, a few moments later she would be quietly mouthing our names, sometimes the wrong ones but nonetheless, she was in there. Ambien gave her the ability to mouth or names, tell us she was not in pain, and eventually belt out Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” (ironic, right?). To this day, it still helps wake her up and make connections every day. I’m amazed by God’s creativity and humor every time she takes this! Beyond thankful the medical staff at Touro tried this out.
